Echoes of Change is a creative arts project which will culminate in a multimedia exhibition. It explores the past, present and future of the landscape and people of Lincolnshire and the Fens, telling the stories of this unique, but overlooked, region through photography, film, music and audio.
-
This is a forgotten landscape. Until relatively recently, the Fens were a vast, dynamic wetland that were then transformed into a highly productive agricultural area through centuries of human intervention, particularly large-scale drainage projects from the 17th century onwards. It has always been an evolving landscape and its people have always had to adapt to changes in the environment. It is the UK’s most climate-vulnerable region, with low-lying land, frequent flooding and an economy tied closely to the land and sea - making it a powerful lens through which to view wider environmental change.
-
The project is led by documentary storyteller, Fraser McGruer who lives and works in Lincolnshire. The project sits in the wider context of his creative practice in which his projects give voice to ordinary people and overlooked communities.
-
We will track participation in our workshops, exhibitions and forums, aiming for a diverse cross-section of Lincolnshire's population. Feedback will be gathered through surveys and interviews to assess how effectively the project resonates with local communities and if it has raised awareness about the climate issues they face.
In addition, we will present our findings and narratives to local and national decision-makers, seeking evidence of the project's influence in policy discussions or initiatives.
